I am so sorry I haven't blogged in awhile! I have been super busy with work the last week of classes. This week has been full of school work, phone calls to some of you guys, and SNOW! The weather man said we would get snow today, but I didn't expect it to be actively falling and on the ground! It is Maryland after all! Despite all of the work this week there is one thing that I look forward to the last week of classes every semester.
That is teacher evaluations. I didn't get the opportunity to do them in high school, so when I got to do them here I was really happy! This isn't to say that there are tons of professors I hate, because that isn't the case at all. The professors are one of the big reasons that I came to this school. Yet, even so I can then express my opinion in a confidential way. Whether I think a unit should include something else, or the professor was super fabulous I can make sure that someone knows and then things can either be improved or stay the fantastic ...

I love registering for the next semester's classes! I look forward to it all semester. Just when things start to get a little sticky, you get to look ahead to what is coming next! Luckily the only class that closed before I got to register was a lab science, Intro. to Forensic Science. So, next semester I am taking 6 classes. Approaches to the Study of Language, American Novel, Jazz Voice, Finite Math, Creating a Character, and ASL IV. One of the things that I love about college is the fact that I can take up to 22 credits. Most people take 16 which is four courses, but plenty of us are overachievers here and take 5 or more. I am taking exactly 22 credits, so hopefully it will keep me busy.
Since McDaniel is a liberal arts school, they realize that not all of the students are going to be experts in everything. I am not a math person, so the math class I am taking (while I do not understand the title) is basically "everyday" math. I won't be in a Calculus class if I ...

I cannot believe that it is not only already November, but that there are only 3 weeks of classes left! The semester has flown by, and the work is beginning to pile up. My to-do list is rather long, but I am getting things done and keeping organized. When I came to school I ran my life much like I did in high school. I wrote things in my agenda and hoped they would get done, and my room was always a complete mess and I couldn't find anything. As I have continued my education and have now almost finished my third semester here, I have realized that organization is a skill that is important when running your own life without your parents telling you what to do and when to do it. If you're worried about this, do not fear! You can use a great resource on campus, Student Academic Support Services (SASS). They can help you if you have a documented learning disability, but if you simply need help with time management and organization they can help you as well, and I would highly recommend using their service ...

So the swine flu has hit the hill. I have been sick this week, but luckily not with the dreaded swine. But, I do have a friend that has it. I was skeptical of this so called swine, it apparently is something to look out for, who knew? While I am quite thankful that I do not have H1N1, I didn't go to classes today just to be safe and to make sure that I didn't get anyone else sick. The professors are very understanding, which makes it really nice to know that they support you in getting better. They don't want you to come to class if you are on your death bed.
Yesterday our course catalog for the Spring semester came out, which I am super excited about. We use a system called Archway here, which is really easy to use. You go in and select the semester, and then pick the subject and you can even pick the level of class and then search for it. It makes the process really simple, and doesn't waste tons of paper. It's also really nice to be able to do in your pajamas while you're il ...

I have been coming to McDaniel since it was Western Maryland College for Theatre on the Hill in the summers with my mom, so it was only natural that I visit for college when I was a senior in high school. I came on a visit day in the summer, so I didn't really want to wake up on a summer morning, but it was worth it. It was a hot day, but nonetheless, I still enjoyed the campus. I fell in love with the theatre, and the old school charm of the school, despite the heat, and the large group that I was in for my tour. To be honest, I don't really remember much more than that from my tour, but I do know that it wasn't horrible! I would definitely recommend coming for a personal visit where the group may be a little smaller and you can get some more personal attention, both from a counselor and from the tour guide who will give you their business card afterwards with contact information.

Well it's a cold rainy weekend here on the hill. I've been spending as much time inside. I was supposed to work at a haunted hayride that is in the area tonight. But, because of the weather it got cancelled. Alpha Psi Omega (theatre honors fraternity) works there every year for the month of October, and then they pay your organization at the end of the month. Our "skit" is Sweeny Todd, and they airbrush your make-up and then you get to scare people for the night. So hopefully, tomorrow will be a little less cold and/or rainy so we can go. Other organizations do it as well, such as Alpha Sigma Phi, a social fraternity on campus.
A few of my classes have been cancelled this week, due to mid-terms and also a paper that I had due in my Lit. Methods class. My professor cancels class so that she can schedule individual appointments with everyone in the class in order to talk about our rough drafts. We don't get a grade on the rough draft, but that is where she marks everyth ...

Sorry I didn't get a chance to post one of these lovely blogs last Thursday, it was mid-terms week and I was studying like crazy. But, alas the stress has subsided. Mid-terms are over, we just had fall break (a four day weekend) and the show is over. So now, I have so much time I don't know what to do with myself. I've been finding things to organize in my room, as well as cleaning my house. With mid-terms over, my coursework isn't very heavy at all either, which is a nice break, but since I'm usually busy all of the time, I have to admit that it is a little weird.
More to come on Thursday!

"The Rocky Horror Show" is officially over!! It went really wonderfully, and I had a really good time, but I am happy that I now have all this free time to do other things! My English classes are beginning to pick up a little bit, I have two tests this week and a paper due Friday, but the classes have been really really fun and educational. How can you beat that?! I don't think that you can beat that! Now with all this free time, I'm going to check out some stuff on campus this week, which is exciting. Tonight and tomorrow night Alpha Psi Omega, the theatre honors fraternity (co-ed) is having their annual mid-term hot dog sale. People put in their orders and then go and deliver the goodies to the person who has ordered them! Also tonight there is an interest meeting for the Vagina Monologues. The Women's Issues Group does it every year, and one of my good friends is directing it. All of the proceeds go towards a cause that supports women. Tomorrow night from 10p ...

Hey everyone!
I am quite sorry that this is a day or two late, I have been so super busy with Rocky Horror rehearsals this week. All day today I have been at a 10/12 rehearsal. Here at McDaniel we try to adhere to a lot of the same policies that the Actor's Equity uses, it's a way of keeping the department and rehearsals efficient and professional. A 10/12 is when you rehearse for a ten hour period out of twelve hours. It has been a little tedious, but has been running smoothly. Now, I just need to go back there until 10:30!
Also this week I have been doing a lot of work, especially in my two English classes, on top of being a little sick. A lot of people have been sick this week, including some of my friends. One of the great things about college is that you are around people all the time and you get really close with your peers and friends, but then you have the trade off that when one of you gets sick, the others probably will too. But, we all take care ...

Rocky Horror rehearsals have begun to pick up! I don't have a day off until next Sunday when the show is over, but it is going really well, and I can't wait for it to open next week! It is very exciting! Last Friday in my Literary Methods class we had a guest speaker, who is another professor in the English department, Dr. Panek. The class may sound like it would be terribly boring, however that is the exact opposite of what it is. Dr. Pam Regis, makes it lots of fun, and it is really a discussion based class. She takes everyone's opinion into account, and values it. She is also my English advisor! If you come to McDaniel you will get an advisor, the professor of your Freshman Seminar. But, once you decide on your major, then you can switch it to another professor within your department. I have Dr. Regis for two classes, and I really lucked out that she is so incredibly awesome. Dr. Panek is as well. I had him last semester for Shakespeare. He has been teaching at the college since ...
